EASA STS preparation
After passing STS theory: practical training and operations
An STS theory pass is one part of the route. Check your certificate, relevant practical accreditation and the operator’s declaration before flying.

Obtain and check the theory certificate
Follow the examining body’s issue process and check the personal details and dates. The STS theory certificate has a five-year validity period. The rule provides for revalidation during validity by demonstrating competence again or completing the specified refresher training; after expiry, the theory qualification route applies again.
Complete practical training for the relevant scenario
The pilot also needs accreditation of completion of practical skill training for STS-01 or STS-02 as applicable. Check the training provider’s recognised or declared status and what its assessment covers. An online theory course or theory certificate is not that practical accreditation.
Complete the operator’s preparations
The operator must meet the scenario conditions, including the appropriate aircraft, procedures and controlled ground area. Submit the operational declaration to the authority of registration and obtain confirmation of receipt and completeness. If operating in another state, check the cross-border documentation and local geographical zones as well.
Use the scenario comparison and provider checklist. The qualification does not cover an operation outside the scenario conditions.
