STS examination and qualification checklist

Bring together the prerequisites, theory examination, practical accreditation and operating requirements for European standard scenarios.

Identify the intended scenario

Decide whether the intended operation fits STS-01 or STS-02 and check the complete conditions. Identify the relevant C5 or C6 aircraft and the practical training needed. A flight that fits neither scenario needs another applicable route; a theory certificate does not change that.

Check the theory route

Complete the required A1/A3 prerequisite. The full STS examination requires at least 40 multiple-choice questions across eight subjects and at least 75% of the marks. A2 certificate holders have a reduced requirement of at least 30 questions across five subjects. Confirm the actual route, time allowance and delivery with your examining body.

Keep the remaining requirements on your checklist

Arrange practical training and assessment for the relevant scenario. Confirm how the theory certificate and practical accreditation are issued. The operator must prepare the procedures and declaration, obtain confirmation of receipt and completeness, and meet the local conditions for the operation.

Continue with the study plan, exam booking guide or steps after passing.
