FAA Part 107 preparation
What does the FAA Part 107 exam cover?
The initial Part 107 knowledge exam covers the knowledge used by a remote pilot to plan and manage small-drone operations. The five main study areas are regulations, airspace, weather, loading and performance, and operations.
By Airspace School · Information checked
Regulations and pilot responsibilities
Study operating limitations, the responsibilities of the pilot in charge, certification and registration, and the conditions attached to different operations. The course also addresses subjects such as night operations, Remote ID, operations over people and waivers. Learn when a condition applies rather than remembering a number without its context.
Airspace and chart interpretation
Understand airspace classes, operating requirements, flight restrictions and authorisations. Work with aviation chart symbols and vertical boundaries. A useful learning check is whether you can explain what a depicted floor or ceiling means at the location in the question.
Weather, loading and performance
Weather study includes aviation reports and forecasts and the effects of conditions on an aircraft. Loading and performance considers how aircraft capability and balance are affected by the load and operating conditions. Our free balance lesson demonstrates one part of this area by showing how moving a load changes the centre of gravity.
Operations and decision-making
Operations brings together airport procedures, radio communication, emergencies, crew coordination, judgement, human factors, maintenance and preflight inspection. The FAA’s topic list includes the physiological effects of drugs and alcohol as well as night operations.
How the syllabus connects to the course
Airspace School organises the published course into 60 lessons across five modules. Learn uses short explanations, 3D models, videos and images. Practice and the searchable Question Bank help you apply the topic. Mocks give you a timed attempt across the course.
For each subject, use the explanation first when the idea is unfamiliar. Then check that you can work through a question without relying on the position of the correct option. Read the exam weighting guide for the current breakdown and question-style guide for the kinds of task to practise.
